Crocodile Creek Water Bottles
July 09, 2009
We just received an order of some really great new water bottles in from Crocodile Creek. They are made from # 304 food grade stainless steel and have the always amazing crocodile creek graphics. There are butterflies and dinosaurs, jungle animals and horses and other great designs to choose from.
It's a great alternative to buying water in plastic bottles all the time and a stylish way to keep hydrated!
They are $11.99 each |

A Sketchy Afternoon
July 04, 2009
| One day not long ago, my daughter & I were bored so we decided to take one of our favourite walks together, down at Robinson's Island. Lily grabbed her sketchbook, Cheza the dog and off we went. |
| Along the path to the beach, there are remnants of an outdoor theatre that I really wish was still operating. I imagine people walking through the lit path to the theatre to watch plays with the smell of the salty sea & sounds of the waves in the air. |
| On the way down to the shore there are lots of interesting things to look at. We could have sat among the trees, sketched and had a picnic, but Lily wanted to get down to the beach. |
 |
The weather that day was fairly gloomy, but it's amazing how one's perception can change when you get to put your feet in the sand and watch the water.
We both decided to draw stuff from our heads instead of looking & drawing. It's a fun exercise for the imagination. Lily drew a magic tree where kids can play all day long in the branches, shaded from the sun. |
| What a fun way to spend an afternoon when there's nothing else to do, with a dog, sketchbook, pencil and each other. |

Growing Herbs with Herb
July 06, 2009

|
A few weeks ago, I brought home a new project for Lily to try. It was a gardening kit called, Sprout Your Own Sweet Scents published by Chronicle Books. A kit to grow your own herbs. It comes in a great fold-out book format with pots, soil and seeds included.
|
There is a full-colour, easy to use instruction guide included and Lily went straight to work on her own. First you soak the soil in water for a few minutes. While the soil is getting wet, you decorate and label your pots with their names on one side - lemon balm, mint, cinnamon basil - and then you stick on funny faces to the opposite side.
 |
Lily then filled each pot with soil and seeded them. The book also suggests to put plastic wrap over each pot to act like a green house and keep more heat in initially, until the seeds come up.
|
 |
When Lily was finished the project, we put the pots on the windowsill and waited about a week until the first sprouts came up. She was very excited to see them. Now they are doing great and growing quite a lot.
I recommend this project kit because it's a great tool to get kids interested in gardening and knowing about how certain foods grow. Plus, Lily had lots of fun with it. |
