It's Potty Time!

It's Potty Time!

Potty training can be one of the most difficult things to teach. Every child is different! Let's look at several different books that address potty training. From funny to technical!

Where to start? Teaching a child to use the toilet can make even the most determined parent "wiped."

Every parent must decide what approach will work for their child, because every child is different. What works for one might not work for another. So here's a brief overview of some popular potty books.

1. Time to PEE! by Mo Willems

This book's approach is light hearted and shows the step by step process. From getting that "funny feeling," to washing your hands. It assures children that what they were doing, when the moment struck, will still be there when they finish.

2. P is for Potty! Sesame Street by Naomi Kleinberg

This book addresses the different stages of growth. Elmo has learned to use the potty, Albie is in the middle of learning, and Jojo is using diapers. It shows that accidents are ok, and are a normal part of learning. It also features numerous lift the flap illustrations that will engage children in the story.

3. Where Do You Poop? by Agnese Baruzzi

This funny pull tab book, shows that everyone poops! And everything has a unique spot to go potty. Kiddos will laugh when they pull the tab and reveal the poo. It goes through several different animals, and ends with where they should go.

4. Potty Patrol! Paw Patrol

Follow the famous gang, Paw Patrol, as they help guide your little ones to using the bathroom. It's a great choice of book if your little one is nervous, or scared to use the potty. It shows how sometimes doing grown up things are scary, like swimming, but in the end are great! By using your kiddos favourite characters, they see that it's cool to go potty!

5. Potty Palooza by Rachel Gordon

Now this is your technical choice! It get's right down to the nitty gritty. From what you need, to how to pass the time and to commonly asked questions! Is there any chance that I could get flushed down the toilet? It is not a light read, but it is filled with tips, and even a song. If you want to go with the reward system, this book comes with a potty chart and stickers as well.

Best wishes as you embark on this journey and I hope your little ones take the "plunge" and go for it!
