Block Printing Inspiration

Block Printing Inspiration

Want to try a new hobby? Check out everything you can do with block printing!

Block printing is a very creative art form, and can be as difficult as you wish it to be. Some places have templates that you can trace and carve, or you can completely carve your own ideas!

The Basics:

Essentially you carve a flat image into a block, roll ink onto it, then press it onto paper or fabric to transfer the image.

You'll need: A carving tool. A block made of linoleum, rubber or wood. Block printing ink. A roller (brayer). Paper or fabric.

Idea #1

Framed Art: Want to personalize your gallery wall, or can't find that perfect colour or art piece? Why not try making your own art! You could do scenery, geometric art, or patterns. The possibilities are endless!

Idea #2

Vegetable Printing or Stamping: Cut a potato or other hard vegetable, then carve into a heart, a flower, a shape or anything you desire, roll it with ink and make a repeating pattern. This idea is great for kids, or if you don't want to invest as much money.

Idea #3

Design a Hand Towel: By getting fabric ink, you can block print onto most fabrics. Hand towels are a nice easy project to start off with, and can add a funky homey touch to your kitchen.
