Combine science and art with this super fun activity where kids can explore painting with vinegar and baking soda & colours and watch the reactions transform their pictures
Here is fun process art project, suitable for many ages, that combines science and art. By mixing baking soda and vinegar with paint (version 2) or food colouring (version 1) kids can make chemical reactions while painting a picture!
Materials required for version 1:
Tray
Watercolour Paper (works best) or Regular White Paper
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Food Colouring
Paint Pipette
Directions for version one:
1.Pour vinegar into some bowls
2.Add drops of food colouring to each bowl of vinegar
3.Place paper on a tray
4.Sprinkle baking soda over paper
Fill paint pipette, dropper or paint bellow with coloured vinegar
Start creating by dropping coloured vinegar onto the paper covered in baking soda.
Watch as the vinegar reacts with the vinegar!
VERSION 2 for making art with fizzy paint:
Materials required for version 2:
Tray
Watercolour Paper (works best) or Regular White Paper
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Paint
Paint Pipette
Paint Brush
To begin:
Pour some paint colours into bowls & mix baking soda into each colour of paint. We added roughly 2 TBSP into 1/3 paint:
Paint a picture with the paint/baking soda mixture:
Sprinkle the vinegar onto the painting with paint pipette, dropper or paint bellow:
Watch as the vinegar reacts with the baking soda that was added to the paint!
Here are the results of the 2 versions:
If you want to save your creations, let dry for several hours.
